If you’re staying with us, why not work up an appetite ahead of dinner with our latest collaboration with the Dunsany Nature Reserve.
One of The Station House’s most extraordinary neighbours is naturalist and film-maker Randal Plunkett, 21st Baron of Dunsany, who took the unorthodox gamble of deciding in 2014 to rewild his family’s storied Co. Meath demesne, building a thriving 750-acre nature reserve.

Rewilding at Dunsany was a radical move, removing all grazing animals from the property, gearing towards restoring ecosystems to the point where nature can take care of itself, and now Dunsany Nature Reserve is the first Irish project to be recognised by the European Rewilding Network.

Enjoy a two-hour trek of Dunsany Nature Reserve in the company of the visionary lord of the manor, visiting this regenerating haven of native forests, fields, springs, streams and marshes. The rewilding project at Dunsany has led to increased biodiversity, including sightings of rare local bird species not recorded in the area for a long time such as red kites, woodpeckers, barn owls, long-eared owls, herons and sparrow hawks, along with red deer, foxes, otters, badgers, pine martens, hares and stoats.

Nature trek pricing is additional. All proceeds will go to the Dunsany Nature Reserve to support this great initiative. As part of this exciting collaboration, and to tie in with the sustainability mission of The Station House, we will be guaranteeing and donating funds to the Dunsany Nature Reserve for each outing, enough to plant a minimum of 7 trees per outing.
For availability of the Dunsany Trek, please enquire at time of booking as spaces are limited.
