Hill of Tara

Tara, the seat of the High Kings, it remained their residence until the sixth century. On the summit of Tara stands a pillar stone believed to be the Lia Fail, or the stone of destiny, on which the Kings of Ireland were crowned.

The Hill of Tara is about 1.6 km to the right off the main Navan/ Dublin Road.

Opening Times
Access all year, Guided tours from May 27th to mid-September. From: 10: 00 am -6:00 pm (last admission 5:00 pm)

It is the wealth of history and legend associated with Royal Tara as the ancient spiritual and political Capital of Ireland, and its central place in Irish History, which attracts on-going, national and international interest. For here on this lonely hill, once stood a royal acropolis.
