Nov 29th & 30th: Boyne Valley Christmas Markets
This year, trade the madness of the malls for an authentic Christmas shopping experience. The best way to kick off the season is with a visit to a beloved Boyne Valley tradition: the Oldbridge Christmas Fair. Held in the scenic Walled Garden at the Battle of the Boyne site November 29th & 30th, it’s the perfect holiday setting to find those unique, handmade gifts and local gourmet treats. The artisan hunt continues into the following weekends, so be sure to check out The Cottage Market and the Sonairte Christmas Market (on December 6th, 13th & 14th) for even more finds.

Using fresh Irish foliage foraged from our very own gardens and beyond, Jenny will guide you through all the steps—from wiring to decorating—to create your own fabulous Christmas wreath. It’s a wonderful way to begin the holiday season and a unique opportunity to take home a handmade centerpiece for your front door, just in time for the holdiays!

December 21st: Witness the Winter Solstice
Newgrange is the crowning jewel of the Boyne Valley—a staggering feat of Neolithic engineering built over 5,000 years ago. The tomb’s profound mystery lies in its deliberate alignment with the Winter Solstice. Every year, around December 21st, a small opening above the entrance precisely catches the rising sun’s rays, which travel the long passage, bathing the inner chamber in light for 17 breathtaking minutes. This ancient phenomenon symbolized the rebirth of the sun and marked the beginning of the Celtic New Year. While entering the chamber for the event is famously rare (and requires a lottery drawn in late September), visitors from all over the wold still gather annually outside the tomb to witness the magnificent Solstice sunrise.
December 31st: New years Eve Boyne Valley Tasting Dinner
End the year on a high note with our New Year’s Eve Boyne Valley Tasting Dinner! The night begins in style with pre-dinner cocktails at 7:30 pm in The Platform Bar & Brasserie. Following this, you’ll be treated to a 7-course festive tasting menu at 8 pm in Signal Restaurant, featuring the very best of Boyne Valley and Irish produce. This culinary experience is perfectly complemented by selections from our in-house Sommelier’s curated wine collection. Celebrate the New Year with great food, fine wine, and warm holiday cheer, topped off with a glass of bubbly at midnight.
